6 Minimalist home decor ideas to try

When it comes to decorating your home in a minimalist style, you have to declutter both your mind and your surrounding space, after all, the saying “less is more” certainly applies here.

You might think that diving into this style means it doesn’t require much thought when in fact, it can become very complicated to just add the items that have a purpose, like items you frequently use and need and let go of the excess. Everything in your home should serve a purpose, either emotionally, aesthetically, or functionally.

    1.DECLUTTER

If you already have loads of items surrounding your rooms, like in the office or bedroom, in order to create a quiet place where you can work without stress or truly relax, you need to create a tranquil state of mind and you can do that when you have an organized desk with the bare necessities, like your laptop, a few stationary items and perhaps something that adds more value, like your favorite flowers or a photo frame with your loved ones.

2. CONSIDER A NEUTRAL BASE

When creating a classic minimalistic interior, it’s all about the base color. Soft shades of beige, nude, off-white, ivory or gray are all welcomed because they bring a sense of calm. Yellow undertones give a warmer and fresh appearance, while blue undertones give the room a crisper look.vA space with lots of natural light is likely to look warmer, so you can use a cooler shade of white to balance the room. Then, to add your own personal touch you can definitely add photos on the walls or artwork, but don’t over do it, that is not the purpose.

3. CHOOSE QUALITY OVER QUANTITY

The trickier part in this process is to make one selection after another. You really have to consider each piece carefully before it enters the room, think about how you need it, why you need it and if it looks good. Your goal is to create a space that anyone would want to spend time in without feeling suffocated by opulence and also not end up feeling like in a doctor’s waiting room. You need to bring the cozy touch.

4. FOCUS ON SHAPES

Minimalism isn’t about complex round shapes, bas relief fireplaces or Biedermeier furniture. In fact, the focus needs to be brought upon symmetry and clean contrasting shapes. It creates a balance and again that feeling of tranquility.

Think about square shapes opposing circle shapes, vertical lines facing horizontal ones, but not in excess. Basic, clean and attractive.

5.  BRING NATURE IN

Minimalism means to be as natural and clean as possible, so why not take some inspiraton from nature and consider wooden chairs or coffee table? Also, plants are a huge focal point in any minimalist living space, so consider taking a few tall plants and they will surely bring more attention and also create a beautiful contrast with the clean cut furniture.

6.  ADD ACCENTS

If you want the “less is more” look, try investing in larger items rather than smaller pieces of décor. A large-scale piece has more of an impact on the eye and help create a simple yet stunning space. Think of tall mirrors, plants, monochromatic artwork, all these can fill up your negative space without creating a cluttered space. Just make sure you don’t add them all in the same space, that will defeat the purpose.
