One bedroom mid-century modern apartment in Bucharest | Miha’s Dreamy Home

Happy weekend, everybody! Today, we’re visiting Miha in her one bedroom mid-century modern apartment in Bucharest. The 52 sqm apartment is located in a newly built complex in the Domenii Area.  The decorating process only took 2 months ( goals ) and Miha has been living here for about 4 months.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m a full-time entrepreneur with a part-time obsession for mid-century interior design and furniture. I started to (visually) document this era six years ago and saved lots of images from Pinterest or Instagram.

Last summer (2021) I bought this apartment in a newly built condo and I got to choose all the finishes, from wooden floors to sand stone and doors. I am very meticulous when researching and that applies to looking for a house, furniture, scents, fabrics, and the list can go on. Speaking of lists – I made one in Notes, putting down what I’d love for each room.

I take decisions very easily because I always know what I want to get. I found this place in less than 5 months and got it fully decorated in 2 months. Most of the items were ordered via Vivre, some from Hobby Mobila.

The bookshelf was the hardest to find as there are not too many pieces in this style available in Romania. Mine is from a brand called Moycor and it’s made from mindi wood – pretty special (and heavy). Also, I wanted to have a rattan-door wardrobe in the bedroom but couldn’t find one so I replaced it with a white closet and went for a rattan cabinet.

Plus, I’m also into the olfactory story. I always have different kinds of candles or scented sticks to complete the atmosphere.

What is your home style?

My home has ‘60s style signature pieces with modern-organic ones. Everything is white, natural-wood or black. One of my favorite furniture items of all times is the sideboard – I think it gives the room personality and structure. I like the silhouettes of the mid-century designs – so classy and sassy. The only drop of colour is the cabinet from the kitchen – I thought I needed an accent and it excellently contrasts the black&white floor. Which, by the way, I think it’s very impactful and reminds me of old French bistros.

The bedroom is an oasis and I wanted a space where I could wake up happy and relaxed. The sun enters the room at approximately 9 AM, being oriented South-East.

Where do you get your inspiration?

Mostly Pinterest and Instagram. I follow architects and furniture designers, but also profiles that show vintage pictures or interiors.

What were the challenges of decorating your home?

Some items are hard to find if you want to stick to a style. Lots of time spent on the Internet.

Which is the dreamiest part / room in your home?

I think I have two, both related to a mirror. The corner from my bedroom – with the golden framed mirror, olive tree and the wooden cabinet. Visually, I also love the fat armchair and asymmetric mirror from the living room.

Any tips for people starting to decorate their home?

Lots of patience. Everything you know about yourself will be challenged during decoration. Ordering, measuring, dealing with all sorts of people and making sure everything arrives in good condition – not easy.

Can you share a couple of your fav interior design shops?

I like shops like The Home, Iedera.ro, Urban Outfitters Home, but also flea markets.
